Not only does it give fantastic advice on how to build your home bar, but the recipes are fun and simple to follow for the home bartender. You can easily make a beautiful classic cocktail and learn the history behind it or try something new with attainable ingredients. The recipes are not overwhelming or convoluted. Prairie Rose even gives many suggestions to tweak certain recipes to your palate. I'm buying this book for all of my friends and family this holiday season! - 3.0 out of 5 stars from kratzy -- Learning how to mix drinks is now easy : Besides an introductory chapter, the book has then dedicated sections to brandy, gin, rum, tequila, vodka and some other alcohols. Before the book’s conclusion with a chapter on mixed spirits and syrups, mixers and modifiers. Overall, the instructions are clear, but do not expect an image with every mixed drink. This is one of the drawbacks of the book because if you are new to mixed drinks, part of the fun is making drinks that also appeal to the eye. Unfortunately, this is where the book falls short. Otherwise, the instructions are clear, with ingredients individually listed and instructions are are easy to follow. Especially if you have spent some time reading through the introduction that lists common components you should have and explains the most commonly used terms. Overall, a good book to learn about mixed drinks, just wish that images were included with every beverage so you know what it is supposed to look like. I was eager to receive my review copy and I'm thrilled with the results. Rose covers everything, from basic knowledge and glossaries to cool hacks for those of us that don't have all the right barware. I love the history she provides for each cocktail and her great ideas for substitutions. There is ample information here on how to tweak your drinks to suit your own tastes, as well as how to invent (and name) your own cocktail. I actually sat up in bed and read it last night.
